The First Connection

Every long-term collaboration, every job offer, every late-night brainstorm started somewhere small: a single click on Connect, or a quiet "Hey, is this you?" on WhatsApp.

The two front doors

LinkedIn is the lobby — polished, professional, slightly intimidating. WhatsApp is the kitchen — informal, fast, where real plans get made. The art of the first connection is knowing which door to knock on, and when to walk from one to the other.

The bridge: from blue to green

The cleanest handoff happens after the second LinkedIn message — once there's enough warmth to justify it. Try: "This thread is getting long for LinkedIn — happy to continue on WhatsApp if easier? My number is +xx xxx xxxx, no pressure." Notice the *no pressure*. Giving the other person an out is what makes a bridge feel like a bridge, not a corridor.

The first 24 hours

Most first connections die quietly within a day. Send a single, specific follow-up — a link, a thought, a thank-you. Not a calendar invite. Not a "circling back." Just one small piece of value that proves the conversation was worth starting.
